During this unit students explored the fundamental concepts of meteorology to understand the factors that create weather and climate, bring about weather changes, and the methodology used by meteorologists to describe and forecast the weather.
Our unit understandings included:
Meteorology is the science that deals with the atmosphere and its phenomena, including weather and climate
Meteorologists forecast weather by analyzing factors such as air pressure, temperature, wind direction, and cloud type
Weather is described by measuring conditions in the atmosphere, including precipitation, wind speed, temperature, and humidity
The earth’s weather changes continuously; Climate describes the long-term pattern of weather in a particular area
Weather and climate impact economies, cultures, communities, and the natural world.
Students used their knowledge from this unit, as well as other resources to develop their 5th grade showcase project. Please select a link below to view a student created video project that relates to this topic.
