Baker-Butler where... Together we learn, Together we belong.
October 30, 2025
This is a weekly publication for Baker-Butler families. Each week's edition is published on the Home page. Previous editions are linked and titled by date.
Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favorite book character! Costumes should be based on a character from a book that your child enjoys and is appropriate for school. Props and your student’s designated book are permitted, but masks, weapons, and scary costumes must stay home. We are not able to accommodate families during this event.
Given the forecast for cold temperatures and high winds, we will hold the parade indoors. Classes will parade throughout the building so students can admire each other's creativity and celebrate the joy of reading together!
Reminders about routines and procedures.
Your child's 1st quarter report card is now available to view in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please call the school (434) 974-7777 to request your access key if you need to set up a Parent Portal account.
The Golden Apple Award is sponsored by Better Living Building Supply and Cabinetry.
The annual nomination window for the 2025-2026 Golden Apple Awards is open. These awards are presented to faculty members from the public and private schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City, including the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) and several area private schools.
The Golden Apple Award is a way to select and honor some of our outstanding teachers. Teachers are most important in nurturing our children's inquisitive minds and preparing them for the challenges of the future.
One winner will be selected from each school. In addition to receiving a Golden Apple, every Golden Apple recipient will earn a grant of $500, which can be used for classroom materials.
Anyone can nominate a teacher for a Golden Apple: students, families, community members, or other educators.

Nominations will close on Monday, January 26, 2026. Please consider nominating a Baker-Butler teacher for this award.
We are happy to welcome Nurse Dolan to Baker-Butler! She will be filling in as our school nurse until Nurse Sims returns later this year. Nurse Dolan brings excellent experience working with children and is already learning our routines to ensure that student health and safety continue without interruption.
Please join us in making her feel at home in our school community. If your child has specific health needs or updates, you can reach the clinic by calling the main office or emailing adolan@k12albemarle.org.
We’re grateful for the extra support and continuity of care this provides for our students!

Election Bake Sale: The election is less than a month away. Although there will be no school on Election Day, Baker-Butler will be bustling with voters, and we want your help! For every election, the PTO hosts a bake sale outside of the polling place. Consider volunteering your time or baked goods.

3rd Annual Walk-a-Thon: The walk-a-thon is returning in November! This is Baker-Butler’s main fundraiser for the year. The walk-a-thon is not only a great opportunity for our students to engage in physical activity, but also a chance for us to come together as a community and support our school. Our goal this year is $15,000 and all donations will go directly to our school. Be on the lookout for more information! The walk-a-thon will take place on November 17 (rain date, November 18), and in order to make this day successful, we need volunteers!
