Dressing for Colder Weather: Helping Students Stay Warm
As our temperatures continue to drop, we want to ensure all students stay warm, comfortable, and prepared for outdoor play. At Baker-Butler, we go outside as often as possible—even in chilly weather—because fresh air, movement, and unstructured play are essential for learning and well-being.
Virginia weather can change quickly throughout the day. Dressing your child in layers allows them to adjust easily from cold mornings to warmer afternoons. A base layer, a sweater or fleece, and a warm coat typically work well. Labeling clothing with your child's name will make it more likely items left behind get back to them.
When temperatures dip below 40 degrees, children should arrive with skin covered to protect against wind and cold during recess, morning arrival, and dismissal.
Unless conditions are unsafe, students go outside daily. Please make sure your child has:
A warm coat
Gloves or mittens
A hat or ear covering
Having the right gear helps students stay comfortable so they can focus on enjoying playtime and returning to class ready to learn.
Thank you for helping us keep our Bears warm, safe, and ready for a great day at school—no matter the weather!
🔢 Join Us for Math Night! – November 20, 5:30–7:00 PM
We’re excited to invite all Baker-Butler families to Math Night on Wednesday, November 20, from 5:30–7:00 PM! This fun, hands-on evening is open to students and families in all grade levels.
Math Night is a great opportunity for families to explore engaging, developmentally appropriate math games together—games you can easily play at home to reinforce grade-level skills in a joyful, low-stress way. Teachers will be on hand to model games, share tips, and answer questions about how to support your child’s math learning.
In addition to learning new math games, families can enjoy:
Popcorn and lemonade
A scavenger hunt
A raffle with fun prizes
We hope you’ll join us for an evening of learning, fun, and connection as we celebrate the power of math through play. Bring the whole family!
Monday is the 3rd Annual Walk-a-Thon!
Please make sure your child comes to school wearing appropriate shoes, coat, and brings their water bottle. We want to thank everyone who has donated so far to this year's fundraiser. We are getting closer to our goal and if you haven't donated yet, there's still time! Please consider creating a fundraising page through 99Pledges (https://app.99pledges.com/fund/bbespto); send cash or check (made payable to Baker-Butler PTO addressed to BBES 2025 Walk-a-Thon); send donation through Zelle (president@bakerbutlerpto.org); or send a donation through PayPal Giving Fund (paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/1635669).
