October 9, 2025
This is a weekly publication for Baker-Butler families. Each week's edition is published on the Home page. Previous editions are linked and titled by date.
a cozy, behind-the-scenes peek into school life with reflections and updates from Principal McCullen.
Many thanks to the families who voluntarily spread mulch around the front of the school this past weekend. The Gerbert, Kidd, Thomas, and Way families kindly spent their time and resources to beautify or school this past weekend. It looks beautiful!
Families Welcome Back to Lunch!
For the first time since schools closed during COVID, we’re thrilled to once again welcome families to join their children for lunch in the Baker-Butler cafeteria! Sharing a meal together is a wonderful way to connect and be part of your child’s school day.
To help everything run smoothly, please follow these guidelines:
Check with your child’s teacher for the exact lunch start and end times.
Let the teacher know in advance when you plan to visit. This ensures your child will be in the cafeteria and on a regular schedule that day.
Be an approved visitor or volunteer. Complete the registration process at www.k12albemarle.org.
Bring your own lunch or purchase one in the cafeteria. You may pay with cash, check, or your child’s lunch account. (Debit and credit cards are not accepted.) We ask that families not bring food to share with other students.
Check in at the front office when you arrive.
Wear your visitor badge so staff can easily see you.
Meet your child in the cafeteria—please do not go to the classroom—and head out once lunch has ended.
Check out in the front office before leaving the building.
You can view current menus and meal pricing here:

We’re excited to see our cafeteria filled with the happy buzz of families sharing lunch together once again.
Nurse Sims Out Until January
Nurse Sims is out on leave until after Winter Break. We are actively seeking a temporary replacement. In the meantime, we will have coverage for the clinic each day.
Clinic Visit Summary
Beginning last week, if your child visited the clinic, they were given a copy of a form that was completed by the person who attended to them, summarizing their assessment and response. We will continue this practice for the remainder of the year.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF:
Your child has had a fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher within the past 24 hours. Children should be free of fever for a continuous 24 hours before returning to school without the use of medications such as ibuprofen (e.g. Motrin, Advil) or acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol). Temperatures often spike in the late afternoon/evening hours.
You know or suspect that you child has a fever or is ill. Please delay sending him or her to school until you have had enough time to observe behavior and feel certain she or he is well enough to be in school.
Your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness and has not yet received medication for a minimum of 24 hours, or until your doctor tells you your child is no longer contagious.
Your child has received medication for an illness for the required 24 hours, but still has a fever.
Your child has vomited the night before or in the morning before going to school.
Your child has diarrhea, stomach pain or cramping.
Your child has nasal drainage requiring constant wiping and blowing.
Your child has frequent coughing throughout the day or night.
Your child has any combination of the above symptoms.
Children who come to school sick are not productive learners and may feel miserable all day. More importantly, they can spread the illness to classmates and teachers.
Frequent hand washing is one of the best ways to slow or stop the spread of germs in your family. Please review the proper procedure with your children at home.
Please feel free to call the school if you have any questions.
Our Lost and Found collection is starting to fill up with jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunch boxes that have lost their way! If your child is missing an item, please stop by the Lost and Found area (located just outside the cafeteria) before or after school—or remind your student to take a quick look during lunchtime.
To help us return items quickly:
Label all belongings with your child’s first and last name.
Check regularly—items not claimed by Thanksgiving Break will be donated to a local charity that supports families in need.
Encourage your child to take a minute each day to gather their things before leaving the cafeteria, playground, or classroom.
Thank you for helping us keep our Lost and Found under control and our Bears reunited with their gear!
