NEVER go anywhere with somebody that you don’t know or don’t trust. Stay well away from stranger’s cars.
NEVER take anything from a stranger even if it is something personal that belongs to you.
NEVER talk to strangers even if they know your name. If they try to start a conversation with you it’s okay to just ignore them and not look at them. Keep walking or run away if you feel scared.
ALWAYS stay with a friend or a group of friends if at all possible. There is safety in numbers!
ALWAYS follow rules about places that you are not allowed to go. Make sure somebody knows where you are going and when you will be back.
Week of May 3
Students took the Color Quiz! This quiz asked them personality questions that matched them up with a certain color and 4 letter code. The code assigned them to a certain type of career field and allowed them to read about their personality and different career fields/jobs they might be interested in based on their answers.
Week of April 19
This week in GOLD students explored the different fears we maybe have (spiders, the dark, fitting in, having friends, going to middle school, et.). We talked about what we can do to help manage our fears.

The Middle School Counselor visited GOLD class this week to talk about middle school rules, classes, lunch, lockers and answer ALL their questions!

Week of February 22
Students continued the Character For Life DVD where they learned the importance of having self control and being alert. The video focuses on how these character traits are important now as young people but also how they go with you as an adult and within the workplace.
Week of February 8 and/or 16
Students participated in a Feeling Scoot game where they reviewed a variety of emotions related to the Zones of Regulation.
Week of January 25
Students talked about a variety of situations where we need to be organized (home, school, work, etc.) Students worked in a small groups where they had to organize a binder full of school assignments. Whoever found their assignment first wins! ....and is the most organized!
Week of January 11
Students participated in two small group teamwork activities and one whole group activity. We had great discussions on all the skills needed when working in a group.

Students decorated holiday lights and wrote an example of something they can do that is kind for others!
Week of Nov 30
Students participated in a video game show where they had to answer questions to earn points. The game show gave them questions on personal safety, body safety, stranger danger and outdoor safety.

Students learned about the science of happiness and those who think about and express gratitude tend to live a more well balanced, happy life.
Week of Nov 9
Students watched the next episodes of Character for Life. They saw the importance of Friendship in the workplace (car mechanic shop) and the importance of cooperation at work (firestation).
Week of Nov 2
Students learned about the power of peer pressure and that our peers can influence us in neutral, positive and negative ways. We talked about different ways to say no and stand up for ourselves.

Students talked and learned about what it means to make positive, healthy choices.
Week of October 19
Students explored a variety of situations and learned the importance of thinking before they speak and how their words affect other people.
Week of October 13
Students made 'self-esteem collages' by looking through magazines and cutting out words or pictures of things that represent who they are or make them happy!
Week of October 5
We continued our conversation on bullying and how it is affecting our school, friendships and home life. Students also participated in a Bully Prevention Kahoot! game where they learned a variety of bullying terms and how our actions affects our self-esteem.
Week of September 26
Students were given the opportunity to share some bullying that may be happening in their lives at school, home and/or social media.
Week of September 21
With Homecoming coming up, students talked about the importance of teamwork and how it can be practiced not only on the basketball court, but at school, home and with friends.
Week of September 14
Students learned about the trail of data we can leave behind when we post, like, comment, send, etc. on a variety of social platforms. They learned the importance of being kind and doing the right thing not only in person, but online as well.
Week of September 8
Students started a DVD called Character For Life that will teach them a variety of skills and how they are used in the workplace. Lesson 1 talked about enthusiasm and industriousness!
Week of August 31
Fifth graders participated a couple classroom activities which demonstrated the power of distractions. We talked about how it is important to focus on the teacher and to not distract our classmates. They all had a chance to share what distracts them in the classroom.
Week of August 24 ~
Fifth graders reviewed the Zones of Regulation that was taught to them in 4th grade! We talked about each zone and what emotions go into each of them. Students also learned a variety of ways to calm themselves (or get back to Green!) when they are facing challenging emotions. These students also got to explore the GOLD class and check out the 'Chill Out Zone!'
First week of school!
All students in GOLD this week talked about all of our positive characteristics that are still there even though we are hidden behind our masks at school!
