Week of May 10
NEVER go anywhere with somebody that you don’t know or don’t trust. Stay well away from stranger’s cars.
NEVER take anything from a stranger even if it is something personal that belongs to you.
NEVER talk to strangers even if they know your name. If they try to start a conversation with you it’s okay to just ignore them and not look at them. Keep walking or run away if you feel scared.
ALWAYS stay with a friend or a group of friends if at all possible. There is safety in numbers!
ALWAYS follow rules about places that you are not allowed to go. Make sure somebody knows where you are going and when you will be back.
Week of April 26
This week in GOLD students learned what NOT to do when it comes to bullying. Staying true to yourself, helping others and being kind is always the way to go!
Week of April 12
Students learned the final habit in GOLD class! We talked about how we need balance in our life and to do things that help our mind, body, soul and brain!
Week of March 29
Students talked about how we work together in sports, school, home and with our friends!
Week of March 15
Students learned the importance of listening, paying attention and asking for help. We talked about how we not only need to pay attention to our teacher and ask questions but also to our parents and our friends!
Week of February 16
"I win, you win, we win!" Students talked about the different ways we can problem solve to make any situation a win-win!

Students learned the importance of getting work done before playing!
Week of January 18
Habit #2 is to plan ahead or to set goals. Students talked about the different ways we can plan ahead and make lists so we are organized. They also set a short term goal that they want to achieve by the end of 2nd grade and a long term goal of what they want to be when they grow up!
Week of December 14
Students started a 7 week book series called the 7 Habits of Happy Kids! Habit #1 is : Be Proactive. They learned to be in charge of themselves and explored the difference between things we can control and things we cannot.
Week of Dec 7
Students decorated holiday lights and wrote an example of something they can do that is kind for others!
Week of Nov 30
Students watched a video called: "It's Your Body, You're In Charge! We talked about 'going with your gut instincts' adn to make sure we have adults in our live we can trust.
Week of Nov 16
Students participated in a mindfulness exercise which allowed them to think of the simple things that make them grateful and happy. Students were encouraged to share what they are thankful for. Class ended with a fun Thanksgiving feeling BINGO game!
Week of Nov 9
Students practiced a variety of coping strategies: coloring, puzzles, word search and yoga!
Week of Nov 2
Students read a silly story that taught them what NOT to do when trying to make and keep friends!
Week of October 26
Students talked and learned about what it means to make positive, healthy choices.
Week of October 19
Students learned about short term and long term goals. They listened to a story about how sometimes when reaching for a goal, it can be tricky and we may want to quit, but we need to keep trying and reaching our goals!
Week of October 13
Students learned the definition of self-control. When controlling our impulses, we need to ask ourselves: "Will it make the situation better or worse?"
Week of October 5
Students learned a new term called peer pressure. We talked about how sometimes our friends can pressure us to make good and positive things, but also poor and negative things. They learned we need to make our own choices and do what we know is right!
Week of September 26
Students learned the difference between high self-esteem and low self-esteem. They were able to think about all the positive qualities they have on the inside as well as outside!
Week of September 21
Students learned 3 ways to solve conflict situations:
Solving it like a Snail: hiding, pouting, running away, etc.
Solving it like a snake: hitting, mean words, bossy, etc.
Solving it like our Best Self: standing up for ourselves with a calm firm voice.
Week of September 14
Students reviewed the Cyber 5 Rules of internet safety. They also listened to a story that talked about the importance of spending time with friends and family and to not always being on a device or TV.
Week of September 8
Students had discussions around the topic of perspective. (Ex: A glass filled half way is half full or half empty?) We talked about how we sometimes need to change our perspective on challenging situations to make them positive!
Week of August 31
We read the story Odd Velvet and learned to celebrate everyone's differences. Students made their our 'Me Riddle' poems where they wrote down different things that make them special and unique!
Week of August 24 ~
Second graders reviewed the Zones of Regulation that was taught to them in First grade! We talked about each zone and what emotions go into each of them. Students also learned different ways to calm themselves (or get back to Green!) when they are facing challenging emotions.
First week of school!
All students in GOLD this week talked about all of our positive characters that are still there even though we are hidden behind our masks at school!
