Islamia College conducts Induction Programme for Fresher’s-2024 



Islamia College conducted   Induction Programme from 3rd to 10th October 2024 to welcome new students of IPG/UG 1st Semester to the college and prepare them for their new role in the college. The college's Induction Program is a key event that takes place at the start of each academic year.  More than Nine Hundred students belonging to disciplines of English Literature, Computer Applications, Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Commerce, IT, Nano Technology, Physics, Electronics and Mathematics, attended the Induction Programme that stretched across nine sessions. The week-long Induction Programme was coordinated and anchored by Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Jhat, convenor Innovation and Incubation center of the college.

The principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf in her welcome addresses to the fresher’s underlined the importance of holding an lnduction Programme in the college. She   apprised them that as make a transition from school to college life, the most challenging event, the purpose of the lnduction Programme is to help them   to acclimatize with the new surroundings, develop bond with fellow students and teachers in the college  as they enter into a new unfamiliar environment.  She also apprised the freshers about the rich human resource and infrastructure available in the college to impart quality education to the students. she exhorted the fresher’s to  take full advantage of the same to become better version of themselves. She also emphasized on the holistic development of the students.

Being first college in Jammu and Kashmir to implement NEP 2020 in the college in the year 2022, the students were sensitized about the  the structure  of degree and  programmes in the light of NEP2020., Continuous Internal Assessments in the college, ABC registration for credit transfer  etc.    The speakers included Dr. Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Controller of Exams and  HOD Mathematics;   Prof. Zahid Mehraj, Convenor Academic Advisory committee and Prof. Altaf Hussain Khan, Convenor Admission committee  and HOD Electronics.

The freshers were introduced to their respective Departments, faculties and facilities available in them  by their respective Heads of the Departments  that included Prof. Abdul Majid, HOD English Prof. Javid Hussain, HOD Zoology; Dr.Showket Yusuf Beigh, HOD Botany; Dr. S.M.M.Akram, HOD Chemistry; Prof. Abidah ahsan, HOD Economics; Prof. Abid Mirza, HOD Biochemistry; Dr. Seema Bashir HOD Commerce ; Prof. Mohammed Qasim Baba, HOD IT; ; Prof. Abdul Wahid Incharge HOD CA  and Dr. Ajaz ahmad Dar HOD Physics.

Dr.  Ajaz ahmad Tak and Dr. Sabeena Dean Students Welfare Boys and girls respectively talked about the student grievance  redressal system available  in the college.  They informed students to approach faculty mentors when facing any academic, financial and psychological problems.

Prof. Mohammed Qasim Baba convenor Disciplinary Committee in his address stressed the  need of adhering to discipline  for better teaching learning process in the college.    

The NSS program officers Dr. Mohammed Amin Mir and Dr. Nusrat Parveen guided the students about personality development, Community engagement and leadership qualities that NSS offers and asked them to join the same.

The Rapporteurs for different sessions were some   faculty members from the Department of English   that included Dr. Asma Shaw, Prof. Irfana Shafi, Prof. Bhat Rehana and Prof. Uheeda Shah.
