Dear IICS Community,
We, your PTA, would like to address some common questions raised by our staff and community members regarding the entrance fee for this year's International Day event.
First, we have transitioned to using a single day pass instead of individual tickets for this year's event. This change aims to simplify the entry process, moving away from the complexity of last year's system, where multiple tickets were required for various dishes. Again, this decision was taken in the hope the new single entry ticket, covering the entire day, will be more convenient for everyone. Read more..
Join the IICS community, including students, parents, family members, and staff, for a day of unity celebrating national specialties. Enjoy food tables, fun activities, art auction and national baskets auction, as well as flag parade. It is an opportunity to proudly represent all our countries! Please find the link to the flag parade and fill in before the 5th of May.
CELEBRATIONS
Dear parents, we will be sharing with you our students' success stories outside our walls here in this corner. Please send any story to Ms. Figen Underdown (fengin@iics.k12.tr) by Thursday each week so that we could share with the community about your child regardless of age.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dear Hisar Families,
Our end of year celebration of Young Author's Day will occur in June (date to be announced), but before we can celebrate we need to create… and we need your help! Please reach out to ptavphisar@iics.k12.tr to volunteer to help our students make books.
Our Grade 5 and 6 had a Battle of the Book event this week. They had to read 6 titles of different genres, form teams and compete by displaying their knowledge of the reading materials. In between the rounds, students had fun Kahoot! games. All the students had a wonderful time. This event was organized by our amazing Library Team! - Mrs. Abizaid
SECONDARY SCHOOL
On Wednesday during community time, Grade 8 English students hosted grade 5 students and high school teachers at their Food Truck Festival. After the grade 8s completed the reading of their independent reading novels, they were tasked with creating a food truck around a character or theme from the novel. They needed to include a designed food truck, a menu, staff members, and three optional additions to their business. The grade 8 students were very creative with their planning, and chose one menu item to offer to the visitors of the festival. The grade 5s and teachers engaged with the food truck project by posing questions to the grade 8 students. Then the participants were free to sample the food, after making a donation. We raised enough money to help 6 families access food for the upcoming bayram. Thank you to the teachers and students who worked so hard to make this happen!
Everyone enjoyed circulating to explore the visuals posted on the walls, chat with others about books, and taste the delicious delights!
The grade 5s did a fine job of conversing with the creators about their food trucks and providing feedback to them.

Busy weekday mornings can become a special kind of torture, especially when you are trying to squeeze in a healthy breakfast.
Skipping breakfast might sound like an option, but in fact it is not, and there are 3 reasons why:
1. Starting with the most obvious, at night the body still works, expanding energy that needs to be refilled in the morning. Otherwise, children may experience fatigue, decreased attention span, a lack of energy throughout the day, irritation, and, as a result, unhealthy snack and meal choices throughout the day.
2. Skipping breakfast can lead to weight gain, as children may be more likely to make poor food choices later in the day. According to research conducted in 2020, among children who skip breakfast, the risk of obesity is 43% higher. Eating a healthy breakfast can also help to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
3. Studies show that children who eat breakfast show improved academic performance, longer attention spans, greater attendance, decreased hyperactivity in school, and even higher test results!
I hope you are convinced, so for some inspiration, check out the links to the quick and delicious breakfast ideas:
