Anthony Higgins (Hisar, Grade 2D), is honing his ski racing skills as a member of the AKUT Snow Sports Race Team. This is his second year on the team, and he loves the challenge of hitting the slopes to train with his teammates and former Olympian coaches. He competed in his first race in the Turkish Ski Federation’s “MiniFest” held in Konaklı, Erzurum on January 31st. He is excited about training for his next race at the end of March and looks forward to sharing his results in an upcoming Friday Flash.
Well done Anthony!!
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Did you know that there is a non-profit animal shelter less than a ten minute drive from Marmara Campus? It is home to over 800 dogs, 300 cats, as well as a few donkeys and horses. They welcome visitors and the Animal Welfare Group here at IICS has begun a partnership with them.
The Primary CCA group has visited the center the last two weeks and students have enjoyed interacting with the animals there. (See pictures below). The Secondary AWG has been collecting donations as well and this will continue the week we return from the holidays. A list of items they are in need of can be found here.
If you are considering adopting a dog or puppy, this would be a great place to start your search as there is a huge variety of breeds, ages and sizes there. There is also the opportunity to foster a dog if you are not able to make a life-long commitment.
To learn more about the shelter or ways in which you can help, please visit their website and/or get in touch with Brenda St. George (bstgeorge@iics.k12.tr)
