Get Into Retail with Marks & Spencer Programme

This 4-week programme is open to people aged 16-30 who are keen to gain invaluable work experience in the Retail sector with Marks & Spencer in the following locations: Cardiff Queens Street, Culverhouse Cross, Talbot Green, Newport Retail Park, Llanelli Parc Tostrec and Merthyr.

This will be a programme of instore work experience and Face to face training with ourselves at Prince’s Trust. We will be hosting a virtual ‘Tech Check’ session prior to the Taster Day so young people have the chance to try out MS Teams before the Taster Day and to prepare young people for what to expect. The taster day takes place virtually on the 16th February, and applicants will be sent a Microsoft Teams link prior to the session in order to join.

Taster Day Details

Programme Details

Programme Dates: Monday 28th February – Friday 25th March 2022

Programme Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9.30am – 4pm

Programme Length: 4 weeks

No. of Placements on the Programme: 20

A Virtual Induction & Get Ready for Placement Session will take place the week before work placement

Week 1: In-store induction, face to face training, time with their designated Buddy, Retail basics

Week 2: Employability skills, M&S digital virtual learning programme to develop retail skills, time with their Buddy, work experience

Week 3: Connecting with customers, customer service in action, work experience

Week 4: Time with their Buddy to reach final sign-off, final celebration and next steps

Additional Details

Person Spec: Candidates must have an interest in working in the Retail sector and working with customers. Candidates must also be willing to work on their feet for long periods of time. No previous experience necessary.

Documentation/ID: On programme completion, candidates will need to produce ID and documents proving their right to work in the UK e.g. Passport, Driving Licence, Birth Certificate. Without this, it becomes very difficult for M&S to sign people off into employment.

Travel costs are reimbursed and lunch budget of £3 per day on prepaid lunch card.

Criminal Convictions: All convictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis but anything serious or theft-related are unlikely to be considered by the employer due to their own strict policies on criminal convictions.
