Cardiff Council Youth Services - Post 16

The Post 16 Mobile Bus Provision

As we emerge from the covid-19 pandemic there is need for new and creative thinking to addressing the effects that the pandemic has had on young people.

The bus will be staffed by Post 16 Youth Mentors who take time to get to know young people and actively involve them in activities and discussions dedicated to supporting the promotion & engagement in EETV.

The bus will give yp immediate access to career, EETV opportunities and advice which is beneficial and help raise awareness. Promotional videos will be played on the TV screens advertising Post 16 opportunities and positive case studies that’ll help motivate and inspire young people.

There will also be a range of post 16 taster activities to encourage interaction on the day but also help promote internal and external courses that can be signed up to. There will also be promotional give aways, to aid profile raising.

Recipe For Life

The Recipe for Life Project is a 12 week comprehensive programme designed to enable young people to gain a taster of aspects of the hospitality-catering industry while providing the key skills and confidence to aid personal development.

Upon completion it is hoped it will lead to the successful transition and integration of yp into the world of work, education or training.

The project aims to target young people aged 16-25 years who are deemed NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) in Cardiff. Recipe for Life is a partnership project involving 4 key partners. Cardiff Youth Service Post 16 Team (The lead body) will work in conjunction with Morgan's Table (a café based within Llanrumney Hall), Adult Community learning & Cardiff Council's Into work (youth Employment team) to successfully deliver this opportunity to young people.

The programme will switch between theoretical lessons (delivered by the Post 16 youth Mentors and Adult Community Learning) in the classroom and practical workshops offered via Morgan's Table's and a bespoke Pop up Youth café that will be developed and delivered by the participants.

An example of the range skills to be obtained via practical elements for example are cooking, front of house customer service, marketing, finance and health & safety/ risk management etc.

It will also allow the yp contact with actual customers and support the capacity to appreciate the importance of personal responsibility and accountability. Qualifications can also be attained by the yp e.g: Level 2 Hospitality, Emergency First Aid & Food Hygiene. This blended approach aims to increase personal development and the give individuals every chance of success moving forwards in their lives, at the end of the course.
