Onsite Construction Academy
Onsite Construction Academy South East Wales
The Onsite Construction Academy is a three-year training, work experience and employment scheme funded by CITB and delivered by Cardiff Council’s Into Work Advice Service.
We aim to give job seekers and students opportunities to expand on their skills and experience and work with employers to offer a variety of roles within construction.
Our funded, classroom-based training is delivered from our premises on a live Wates Residential site in Rumney, Cardiff.
Upon completion of our training, we provide learners with onsite experience, apprenticeship and employment opportunities across the south east Wales region.
In order to qualify for our support, learners must meet the following eligibility criteria:
· Unemployed or changing from a career in another sector or Construction Diploma student
· Aged 16+ (no upper age limit)
· Residing in the following local authorities: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr, Monmouth, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, RCT, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan
Our programme:
If you are looking to expand your skill set and gain qualifications to work on construction sites, we can offer you guidance and training.
Our employment and site ready training course consists of the following elements:
· A one-day induction session to gauge suitability for the course including a capability assessment, CV writing, ID requirements and mock CSCS testing
· A five-day classroom-based learning course awarding the following qualifications:
o Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (QNUK Accredited)
o L2 Asbestos Awareness (QNUK Accredited)
o Abrasive Wheels & Disc Cutter Safety (L2 QNUK Accredited)
o QNUK L2 Fire Safety for the Fire Marshall
o QNUK Level 2 Safe working with Ladders & Stepladders inc ARCo Working at Height Awareness
o Traffic Marshall & Plant Machinery Awareness
o CSCS card
· A one to two week onsite experience placement on a live construction site in the south east Wales region leading to employment
