Special schools
We have three special schools in Powys and they are Brynllywarch Hall School, Ysgol Penmaes, and Ysgol Robert Owen. Admission to our special schools falls outside of the standard admissions arrangements for mainstream schools. Brynllywarch Hall School supports learners aged 7 to 19 years old with complex emotional, social, and behavioural additional learning needs alongside specific learning difficulties and other additional learning needs. Brynllywarch Hall school is located in Newtown. Brynllywarch Hall school has a satellite class located at Ysgol Maes y Dderwen.
Ysgol Penmaes supports learners aged 3 to 19 years old with profound and multiple additional learning needs. Ysgol Penmaes is located in Brecon. Ysgol Penmaes has a satellite class located at Crossgates C.P. school.
Ysgol Robert Owen supports learners aged 3 to 19 years old with profound and multiple additional learning needs. Ysgol Robert Owen is located in Newtown.
Specialist Centres
We have 19 specialist centres across Powys. They support learners with Local Authority maintained Individual Development Plans (LA IDPs) in a combination of mainstream and specialist classes. Admission to our specialist centres falls outside of the standard admissions arrangements for mainstream schools. In this case, the Powys Inclusion Panel acts as the admissions authority and determines the admissions arrangements.

Pupil Referral Units
We have two Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) in Powys, one in the north and one in the mid/south. The PRU's offer high quality alternative education provision through a nurturing, supportive, and encouraging environment. Admission to our Pupil Referral Units falls outside of the standard admissions arrangements for mainstream schools. North PRU is located in Newtown and South PRU is located in Brecon .
