This 1882 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map tells us a lot of information about 56-64 Clinton and 1-59 Mercantile. The building is blue (which represents concrete, lime, cinder, or cement brick). However, on the map it says “stone back with brick.” This parcel is made up of 5 stories that, surprisingly, has elevators in 10 of the buildings. There is only one hydrant, but it is on the Commercial St. side of 21 and 23 Mercantile.
