Read the first paragraph of the following selection from Slavery and the Making of America. Describe the impact the War for Independence had on slavery.
Some say that the revolution continued long after the Treaty of Paris. It's effects can be seen in the experiences of poor farmers, enslaved black Americans, and the role of women in the family and society.
As we discuss these issues, remember how to think about change as a historical thinking skill. What was life like before and after the revolution? (for each group of people) Also, reach beyond this time period to preview how life for black Americans and women will change in the 19th Century.
