Physical Computing

Physical Computing encompasses many areas of technology, including ROBOTICS. While robotics are awesome, there is an increasingly interesting amount of physical computing technologies available. In the IDEA Studio we aim to provide modern creative construction kits for learning and creating. Read a bit about some of the single-board computer kits below.

micro:bit

The BBC micro:bit is increasingly popular for learning more about coding, robotics, and more. It's power comes from it's many features including wireless (BLE) capabilities that makes creating interactive objects not just possible, but super fun.

Hummingbird Duo

The Hummingbird Robotics Kit has been a go-to at HKIS for a number of years. The IDEA Studio has many boards and components available to make any project come alive.

You can even connect the Hummingbird with a bit of code and a science probe to setup your own experiments!

MaKey MaKey

The MaKey MaKey takes learning about circuits and programming to next level where whimsical meets smart. Plug in a MaKey MaKey to your computer, hook up conductive objects, program a little code and you have a recipe for interactive fun. You can even use it in an interactive game, like a pinball machine!

littleBits

littleBits are a snap. Literally, they snap together to create interactive circuits that are crazy easy and fun to use. Make a Pop-a-Shot basketball game that keeps score, design an alarm system for your room, make a Rube Goldberg contraption that traverses the classroom!

Arduino

A high-level microcontroller that has been the leader in microcontrollers for physical computing projects around the world. While not a full computer, an arduino is very diverse in the types and amount of projects you can make.
