In response to teachers requesting more clarity about their contracts and calendars, starting with the 2025-2026 school year, all classroom teachers will receive a new document, called a contract addendum, with their contract. While the addendum does not contain new expectations or terms of employment, its purpose is to provide further clarification about contractual obligations. The terms of the contract addendum are legally binding like the contract, and apply to all classroom teachers of all contract lengths. In HCPS, a classroom teacher's role requires a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education in an approved endorsement area, serves as co-teacher or teacher of record, provides routine, direct classroom instruction to students, and is compensated on a teacher pay grade.
