The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits employers from discriminating against employees or applicants with disabilities in all aspects of employment including hiring, pay, promotion, firing, and more. The Act protects employees from retaliation when availing themselves of their rights under the law.
The ADA also requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to workers with disabilities, as long as the accommodations do not represent an undue hardship.
To request a workplace accommodation under the ADA, an employee must notifty their supervisor or the Human Resources Department (HR) of the need.
As required by law, HR will engage in an interactive process with the employee to better understand the request and the employee's disability.
The employee and the employee's physican must complete an ADA Employee Accommodation Medical Certification request form.
HR will consult with the employee's supervisor regarding essential work duties and feasibility of the requested accommodation.
HR will assess all information and notify the employee and supervisor of approval/denial of the request for accommodation.
