In support of teacher recruitment and retention, the employment role of Annual Resident Educator (ARE) is introduced for the 2023-2024 school year. The ARE is targeted to identified board substitutes who will fill the role of a vacant teaching position for a portion of the school year. The ARE is a full-time, benefits eligible employment position.
In order to serve as an ARE, a board substitute must remain in the same teacher vacancy for a minimum of thirty student days and demonstrate mastery in that specified role as deemed by administration. After thirty days of consistent subbing in the vacant position, the administrator may consider the substitute for the ARE role at any point after that thirty-day time period. Approval to transition a board substitute to an ARE must be received by the appropriate level, Exceptional Education, or CTE director. Once the ARE role is filled, recruitment efforts for the specified teaching position cease for the remainder of the school year.
Upon successful completion of 30 days in the board sub role, the building administrator submits the ANNUAL RESIDENT EDUCATOR SELECTION FORM
The form is routed (by HR) to the appropriate Director for approval
Once approved HR will contact the employee to extend the offer and process the change
*Please note, like Board Subs, AREs cannot case manage.
