TEACHER EVALUATIONS

OVERVIEW

Probationary teachers must be evaluated annually. A teacher in the first year of the probationary period shall be evaluated informally at least once during the first semester of the school year.  (Code of Virginia 22.1-303) 

Continuing contract teachers must be formally evaluated at least once every three years and more often as deemed necessary by the principal.  Such teachers shall be evaluated informally during each year in which they are not formally evaluated.  (Code of Virginia 22.1-295) 

Any continuing contract teacher who receives an unsatisfactory formal evaluation and who continues to be employed by the local school board shall be formally evaluated the following year.  

HCPS utilizes the Unified Talent Perform system to document the performance evaluation process.
