As the winter sports season comes to an end at T.A. Blakelock, we bid farewell to the memories and exciting moments that the teams exhibited representing the school. These teams include Ski and Snowboard, Boys Basketball, Girls Varsity Hockey, and Boys Senior Hockey.
Ski and Snowboard
The Ski and Snowboard team was coached by Mr. Jokic and his student leaders including Maya Schothuis, and Rhys MacKay. The team participated in three days of vigorous competition over the winter season. Rhys MacKay, Luke MacKay, and Arvin Saron made their mark, winning second place in the Open Boy's Halton Championship. Although no players made it through the stiff competition to OFSAA, Mr. Jokic saw huge potential and has high hopes for the future of the team.
“I think we did fantastic, [and I’m] proud of everyone. We made lots of development and are looking for more time on the hill next year for those wanting to try,” Mr Jokic stated.

Boys Basketball- undefeated winners of the league
Dribbling into victory this season, Blakelock’s Senior Boys Basketball team left a lasting impression of persistence on the court. The team had great chemistry between the players, and was led by Grade 12 captain Justin Salamba.
The team was coached by Mr. Kaufman, who was an essential component to their success. During the regular season they remained undefeated winners of the league. The Tigers advanced to the playoffs, but unfortunately, they lost in the semi-finals to Sainte Trinite Secondary School. The team was exceptional this season through their flawless teamwork and dedication.
Hockey Team Talk
Girls Varsity Hockey
The Girls Varsity Hockey team experienced a positive season led by coaches Mr. Butler and Mr. Winter. The girls made a mark on the ice with their strong teamwork and collaboration, pioneered by Grade 12 captain Elisia Checchia.
A highlight from their season occurred at the tournament they participated in, where they took home the trophy for Blakelock. The girls found success in the regular season as well, making the playoffs. The first game pushed the girls to their limits, as they fought hard in an overtime win that put them through to the next round, where unfortunately, they fell short. In a season that forced them to improve and adapt, the varsity girls hockey team persisted.

Boys Hockey
Skating into the hearts of many was the senior boys hockey team, coached by Mr. Alchesi, Mr. Ardell, and Mr. Hoefs. It was led by multiple captains, including Ryan Gill, Dax Boeda, and Marco Fortino. The tournament in Niagara was a strong turning point for the players and helped the team morale. They gave it their all, and blew the coaches away with their incredible performance on the ice.
“It was a really good tournament to get to know the team better,” said Grade 11 student Jack Pinette, a sentiment that was shared among the players.
With the winter's snow transitioning to the green grass of spring, winter sports has come to an end at TAB. From the newly created bonds and friendships, to the rush felt after a big win, Blakelock’s teams displayed persistence, teamwork, and success.
