Ms. Blackwell is highly regarded within the Blakelock community for her ability to break down some of Mathematics' most complex problems. Beyond the numbers, she is never scared to share her vibrant personality with students, creating lasting memories and unforgettable lessons.
She graciously agreed to an interview with the TABloid, reflecting on her teaching career and enthusiastic personality.
Growing up, Ms. Blackwell’s first love was in the world of orthodontics. She routinely attended her sister's appointments, enthralled by the inner workings of the profession. However, this passion quickly faded when she arrived at high school, where she discovered her true calling: teaching.

In her high school years, Ms. Blackwell often found joy in helping her classmates through the rigorous curriculum. “My favourite thing growing up was when I had friends in my class that struggled with math,” She exclaimed. “I always loved helping my friends study for their tests, then just as a result, I knew I wanted to help other students become stronger.”
Math was always one of Ms. Blackwell’s favourite subjects, and she chose to pursue a career in teaching to transform the narrative of the often less-than-favoured discipline. “It makes me sad when students struggle in math,” she shared. “Only because they had a poor experience with a classroom environment or a teacher, so I always wanted to be the teacher that doesn't make you love it if you don't but helps you see little joys in it.
Ms. Blackwell then enrolled at Brock University, spending four years on her undergraduate degree in math before later gaining her bachelor’s of education at teachers college. Out of school, her first job was at Blakelock, where she has spent the last two years teaching Functions and Data Management.
Around the halls, Blakelock is proud to call Ms. Blackwell our resident Justin Beiber superfan, and beyond the classroom, she enjoys a relaxing walk and the company of her friends.
With a bright future ahead of her at Blakelock, Ms. Blackwell’s personality shines through in her teaching philosophy. We hope that everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow under her guidance!
