One of Blakelock’s beloved and award-winning teachers, Mrs. Richardson, is retiring. She is the Acting Department Head of Technological Education, Family and Computer Studies and primarily taught SHSM healthcare students. Though she was only here for a relatively short time, she made a lasting impact on students and teachers alike.
The image to the left shows Mrs. Richardson (right) with Grade 12 student Vanessa Critchlow (left).
Mrs. Richardson is a registered nurse, with plenty of experience working in hospital and office environments alongside doctors from all medical backgrounds.
On May 6 her excellence in teaching was awarded as Mrs. Richardson is the recipient of the "Technological Education Leadership Award" from the Ontario Council for Technology Education (OCTE). This award includes a bursary of $1,000 for Mrs. Richardson to award to a student to pursue post-secondary education or a career.
An interview was conducted with this extremely hardworking and talented teacher over email, to answer a few questions regarding her departure.
A former SHSM student, Lola Chan, who attends a different school commented on Mrs. Richardson’s retirement:
”She was very sweet. She was amazing at explaining how to use the machines and provided us with just enough detail. She was very compassionate, and you could tell that she loves what she does.”
Another student, Emma Monastirsky from Blakelock, claims that she did not have the pleasure to have Mrs. Richardson for multiple classes, but sees her as a "valuable role model".
You will be missed, Mrs. Richardson!
