This investigation is important because it shines light on the problems light pollution can cause. How does light pollution affect the environment? The results of this research show that light pollution can cause a number of health problems like headaches, fatigue, and anxiety. It can also cause the circadian rhythm to be confused. Light pollution is caused by all the lights that are on throughout the day, causing the sky at night to be lighter than it should be. The results also show that the most light polluted areas per person in the U.S are Alaska, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, and Louisiana, while the least light polluted area per person is Hawaii. This project contributes because it informs people of the dangers of light pollution and how it can affect the environment.
The purpose of this research was to inform people of light pollution and its effects. Some of the effects of light pollution are stress anxiety, lowering the amount of melatonin the body produces, disrupting the ecosystem, increase in crime (due to the glare of the light), and confusing the circadian rhythm. If light pollution were to decrease, the environment would improve. I accept this because of the proof that was found showing the negative effects of light pollution. The information was gathered by looking at different websites and then comparing the findings of each website to see what was accurate. This experiment could have been improved if there was a proper way to do a light pollution experiment.
