The purpose for this science project was to help discover the main reason as to why the polar bears are becoming extinct at a fast rate due to global warming. In order to do this, it requires a vast amount of change from all over the world in order to see significant results. Everyone will have a part in making the world for polar bears and other animals everywhere that are affected by climate change. The reason to start this investigation is that there was a lot of news about global warming and climate change that I wanted to sort of bring some awareness to the situation and hopefully be informational on the topic. I investigated the annual decrease of sea ice in the Arctic over a couple of decades. I found out that the sea ice is melting by 13.1 percent every year, and this is detrimental to the polar bears' population, because this is their living space. I also found out that not only was global warming a leading cause of the population decrease, hunting by the northern countries factors into it as well. My procedure for this experiment consisted of having had to search a reliable website for data on polar bear extinction, then I put together some of my data and chose which one had the greatest effect on the population, which was obviously global warming, that led to the melting of sea ice and limits the polar bears ability to hunt for food. I got some questions answered with this experiment, not all of them though. I still have yet to find a decent way on how to help the sea ice from melting, because this is a global effort that we need to bring attention to very quickly.
