Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team? I am working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project? A micro bit.
What is your plan to create in this project? My name and a rock, paper, scissors game.
What unique qualities will your project have? A point system in the game and if you lose it will tell you game over.
Using a micro bit, I created a rock, paper, scissors game because I wanted to make some kind of game on the micro bit that you could play with friends and do across more than one micro bit. You press a button to say you have won the round. You press a different button to make it a game over.
During this process, I learned that coding is a lot harder than it seems. I also learned what a sprite is. The last thing I learned is how to put together blocks to make a code.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Digital citizen because I appropriately used a website to make code.
A challenge I overcame on this project was not being able to download code to the micro bit. I was able to do it by getting help and going into the files app to change where the hex was. Also how to show game over at the end.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way I made the score keeper on the rock, paper, scissors game. The reason why I would change it is because it didn't show you the score when you pressed the button to say you won the game.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programing CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in coding, because I made code on a computer.
Day 1. I made my list of 25.
Day 2. I made a code that flashes my name.
Day 3. I made 3 different small codes.
Day 4. I made the rock paper scissors game.
Day 5. I made the stopwatch.
Day 6. I made a step counter, and answered the reflection questions.
