Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
A micro-bit, my computer, and my I-pad
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a Compass, possibly My Name, and a Magic 8 ball.
What unique qualities will your project have?
There will be a code of showing my name, which is unique among my fellow students.
Day 1:
I set up my digital portfolio and started my first code.
Day 2:
I filmed my first video, and started programming for my second.
Day 3:
We were not able to work today, due to state testing.
Day 4:
Making a new code for my compass.
Day 5:
Finished my code and filmed my video.
Day 6:
I started working on my final code: Redlight, Greenlight
Day 7:
Continued the second part of the code and wrapped up my digital portfolio.
Using a micro-bit, the website MakeCode, and my I-Pad, I created strings of codes. A few of these codes included a compass, a dice, and a Redlight-Greenlight game simulation. I created these codes, because they both intrigued and challenged me in some shape or form.
During this process, I refreshed my memory on how to manage and build codes for the micro bit. I as well had to relearn how to take snapshots from my computer. But other than that, it was a pleasant way to intellectually recede.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constructor. My project ties to Knowledge Constructor, because I educated myself on how to make some of my codes using certain videos.
A challenge I faced on this project was time. Time, or the lack thereof, was a problem for me because it meant that I was unable to finish my last code; Redlight, Greenlight. And so, I took screenshots of the almost finished code to show my unfinished work.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the skill level of these codes. I found that simply showcasing my name isn't producing the right level of learning for me. Instead, I would have liked to make codes with the complexity similar to the Redlight, Greenlight game.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the computer programming CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to the computer programming CTE program and Hastings High School because I constructed a code with the help of provided code pieces and tutorials.
My project connects to jobs such as a Software Engineer. Like me and my projects, a Software Engineer designs and tests software for various platforms. The average Software Engineer makes an annual salary of about $100,000 at an entry level position.
Project 1- My name
Project 2- Flashing heart
(My code accidentally got deleted)
Project 3- A Dice
Project 4- A Compass
Project 5- RedLight, Greenlight
While I was unable to finish the coding and test it out, it took me two days to make this code.
