Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
Carboard, newspaper, and paint.
What is your plan to create in this project?
A peacock. If that dosent work, I plan to make a turtle or a boat.
What unique qualities will your project have?
This project will be unique to me because I will add unique designs that I have never seen anyone paint.
Using cardboard, I created a cardboard turtle named Winston because I felt that I could make a turtle easily while it still looking nice. During the creation of my turtle, I created 4 models of a peacock and 2 models of a turtle before I finally made the perfect model. After school ends, I hope to show this project at the Barry County Fair.
During this process, I learned how to paper mache using paper towel. Normally, I use newspaper, but I really liked the look of the paper towel bettter than the newspaper look. I also learned that instead of the flour and water mixture that I normally use for my paper mache, I had to use water and glue.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I created many models of my design and came up with a solution to most of my problems.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out how to make the eyes. The reason for this, is because googly eyes looked weird, along with my painted eyes. I was able to overcome it by sculpting eyes with some leftover clay and painting it with nail polish hardener to make the eyes look glossy.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the position of the painted shell pieces. The reason why I would change it is because I found that they were not correctly positioned. Instead, I would take even more time stenciling the shell.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering and Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to the Engineering and Design CTE program because I made many different models for my projects, found all of my problems, and fixed them.
My project is similar to careers in Architectual models. It is similar to this career because I built prototypes and roughly built my turtle to scale. The average income for an Arcitectual Modelist ranges form $100,000 to $120,000.
Day 1:
I created my digital portfolio website.
Day 2:
I have decided that I am, going to build a peacock.
Day 3:
I have already made 4 models of the peacock and it is not working, so I have decided to make a turtle.
Day 4:
I was not at school today, however I did work on my project. I stated to build my main model. (No picture available)
Day 5:
Today I paper mached it with newspaper.
Day 6:
I decided to paper mache with paper towel, so there are now two layers.
Day 7:
I am almost finished painting it. All I have left is part of the shell.
Day 8:
Today I painted on a pair of eyes. I didnt really like them, so I will probably glue on googly eyes.
Day 9:
Today, I finished my digital portfolio.
This is my final turtle. It took me a long time, but I finished it, and I hope you like it! (His name is Winston!)
