continued reading Wonder. We've enjoyed hearing the story from Via's perspective and now we are hearing Summer's perspective.
One of the reasons that I love reading this book to my students is the conversations that come from it. We had some great conversations this week about:
whether or not we should give others the power to upset us
how sometimes our peers might put conditions on our friendships (for example: We can be friends but I don't want you playing with ___). We talked about how these conditions are red flags in a friendship.
how if you know that something is wrong, you shouldn't do it (Maya in our book thought that "The Plague" was really dumb but she still wouldn't play Four Square with August to avoid the other kids saying that she had The Plague.)
learned about writing Haiku poems. Wait until next week when we publish ours and share them with you! They are amazing!
continued our work in morphology with adding the -s or -es suffix to words. We also learned about adding -ing and -ed suffixes to base words. We focused on a few important spelling rules too!
wrapped up our problem solving with multiplication and division unit!
