Literacy

This week we:

started reading a new book! The kids are loving it! It's called The Underdogs and it's written by Kate and Jol Temple from Australia. One of our students brought in a unique book from home to share with the class a few weeks ago and that introduced us to these new authors. We have two chapters left and we will be finishing it up on Monday.
completed our caterpillar challenge personal narrative writing.
learned the final spelling of the /er/ sound. When a w is followed by an or, it makes the /er/ sound, like in word and world.
wrote in our journals.

Numeracy

This week we:

started learning about multiplication!
examined the relationship between equal groups, repeated addition and multiplication
continued our work on Reflex each day! The students are LOVING it and their basic fact fluency is improving so quickly!

Science

This week we:

explored the different types of forces and ways we can use force to start, stop, change speed, change direction, change shape with an object.
watched videos and identified the different types and uses of force being shown.

Before the starting the science experiment, the students and I had 3 minutes to make whatever we wanted to with our playdoh. Can you spot the 6-7?

Then, we set to work. We made our playdoh start, stop, change speed, change direction, and change shape using different types of force.

I promised the students that I would share this video with you. They were quite excited to try some of these experiments at home!

Art

This week we:

learned about the life and art of Alma Woodsey Thomas leading into Black History Month.
created an Alma Woodsey Thomas inspired heart painting. They turned out absolutely fantastic!
experimented with mixing colours by choosing two neighbouring colours on the colour wheel.
