used arrays to show multiplication
made the connection between equal groups, repeated addition, skip counting, arrays and multiplication
During our chats about arrays, we talked about how we use them in real life. Organizing desks in a classroom, chairs in the gym, cookies on the cookie sheet... we use arrays all the time! I brought in a slab of homemade rice crispy squares today and we had to figure out how to cut them to give us each the biggest piece possible with little to no waste. We needed 24 pieces. We quickly decided that a 2 by 12 array would be hard to cut so we went on to come up with other options.
A huge THANK YOU to the parents and grandparents that could come out and join us on the ice! We appreciate you!
I loved the way we handed out Valentines this year! I only had 2 students passing them out at a time so the kids could see what they were being given and could say a quick thank you. There were so many tender moments... even a spontaneous hug between two friends. I loved witnessing it and didn't always interrupt the moment with photos.
At the end, we went through the bookmarks that I gave the kids. We took the time to have each student read their word and I was able to explain my thinking behind choosing it for them. It was such a special afternoon!
