We started the week with five new students in 3B!
They have all been a wonderful addition to our class family! Welcome to our five new 3B families!
enjoyed the Memoirs series for read alouds! The students enjoyed hearing the variety of animal narratives. These books can be found on Epic too!

planned and wrote a personal narrative paragraph based on a Secret Message activity that we did on Monday.
completed a Heart Word check in. We had to spell and read each of the 72 Heart Words introduced so far. Marks will be posted to PowerSchool soon.
worked on our subtraction strategies. We reviewed how to use Touch Math with subtraction and the take away 9s trick.
started practicing our multi-digit subtraction using two and three digit numbers. Watch the Youtube video below to see what strategies we use to support students in achieving consistent accuracy with their calculations.
started our new unit on Force and Simple Machines!
focused on the concepts of energy and force.
Students worked in pairs to find actions that require force within the classroom.
This week we did something a little different for art. As we approached the end of our first week back, I wanted art to be relaxing and a low stakes activity. I follow a wonderful artist and art teacher on Instagram, Andrea Nelson, and she shared a wonderful mindfulness activity a while back that I saved to my School folder. Students were asked to create gentle wavy lines across their page. Then, they were asked to draw vertical lines with a variety of markers without letting them touch their pencil lines or each other. The idea behind it is that sometimes when our brain is busy, doing a simple low stakes art activity can calm our mind...just like taking deep breaths. Paying attention to the creation of simple lines, the spacing, the colour...frees our minds from the rest of life's stress and pressure. The students really loved this activity!
We learned a new game this week in PE and had so much fun!
