Why are Narratives Important?

We use narrative skills to tell and understand stories. These skills are not only important for telling and understanding fictional stories - we use these skills in our day-to-day lives to learn and communicate in a variety of ways. For example, we use narratives to give/understand directions, re-tell events, describe things, tell people about ourselves, and understand things that we read.
