Familiar Routines

Why Use Routines?

So much learning can happen when children are involved in daily routines! Routines are how children make sense of his/her word. Through routines, children start to understand:

  • the organization of their world (e.g., After we wake up, we get dressed. Then we have breakfast. Then we brush our teeth)

  • what to say/what others say during particular routines and when to take their turns

  • new vocabulary associated with a routine

  • theirs and others' social roles

  • how to participate in conversation

What are your family's routines?

Daily Routines can include:

  • Riding in the car

  • Bathing

  • Feeding

  • Dressing

  • Bedtime routines

  • Reading books

  • Tidying up

  • Doing chores

  • Playing together
