Letter to Santa

This week the students were taught the 5 components of a friendly letter - heading, greeting, body, closing and signature. They were then assigned the task of writing a letter to Santa. These letters turned out great and can be viewed in our photo gallery for the week. We have mailed the letters to the North Pole and the students are eagerly awaiting Santa's reply.

Virtual Elf

This week an elf arrived virtually to watch over our 4B classroom. Sammy has been sharing her daily adventures with us via Google Classroom and the students have been writing about her activities. Sammy is impressed with their complete sentences, descriptive words and perfect punctuation!

Language Arts

KidBlog

This week we completed our Weekend Update, WeSearch Wednesday - Reindeer, and Free Write where many students shared about their personal Elf's adventures for the week.

Please check out our class blog to see your child's writing.

Word Work

This week the students worked through various activities on the long a sound, spelled a_e, ay and ai. We are using a digital program where the students are given assignments in Google Classroom.

Math

XtraMath Daily Practice

XtraMath is our daily math fact practice. The students will progress through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division levels at their own rate.

Please click on the picture to the left to be directed to the XtraMath sign in page. I highly recommend that they use this site to practice their math facts at home. Mastery of their math facts will make learning more complex concepts a lot easier.

Mathletics

Mathletics is a comprehensive online learning tool with lessons and activities specifically aligned to the Alberta math curriculum.

Please have your child log in with google to take advantage of this program at home. Their username and password can be found on the first page of their agenda. I will assign activities that are align with objectives being taught in class, so this will be great practice!

Jump Math

We continued working on our Multiplication unit in math. The students work on the following activities to practice their multiplication facts:

  • Sharks Can Multiply - Multiplying up to 100

  • x4, x5, x6 and x7 flash cards

Kahoot

We completed multiplication Kahoot games to review the 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 times tables. If you would like to challenge your child to a Kahoot game, please click here to play the 0-6 times table game and then click PLAY AS GUEST. Good luck!

Social

Natural Regions

We continued our Social Studies unit on the regions of Alberta this week. The outcomes we addressed are:

  • Importance of preserving Alberta's provincial parks, national parks, and protected areas.

  • Alberta's industries within the region and their resources including, farming, ranching, agriculture, mining for energy, mining for rocks and minerals, and gathered and collected resources.

  • Determining if Alberta's resources are renewable or nonrenewable.
