Tornado Hunter

Our school was lucky enough to have Chris Chittick, Tornado Hunter Videographer, share their tornado hunting stories in an educational and entertaining way.

The Tornado Hunters have a combined 40+ years of chasing mother nature’s fury across North America. They have first hand knowledge of close to 400 tornadoes. Tornadoes range from EF0 to EF5 and the team was actually inside the largest tornado ever recorded, a 4.0 km wide tornado in Oklahoma. Beyond tornadoes they have experienced some of the most powerful lightning events, devastating hail, hurricanes and more.

Wellness Day

On Wednesday, the staff and students participated in a variety of activities focusing on mental and physical wellness. The day began with a school wide assembly to play an exciting game of Kahoot with Ms. Angela and then the students were introduced to the activites that were planned for the day.

The students participated in a Wellness Walk where they moved through stations to complete specific tasks. They also decorated Gratitude Jars and filled them with descriptions of things they are grateful for. We made Kool-Aid Playdoh for the students to use during mindful exercies. Finally, delcious watermelon cups were delivered for the students to enjoy!

A HUGE THANK YOU to the RBES Wellness Day team for planning a wonderful day!

Let's Go Camping

This week the students started a project-based unit in Language Arts called "Let's Go Camping." We began the unit by watching a cute story called "A Camping Spree with Magee" by Chris Van Dusen. Please click on the link to the left if you'd like to listen to the story as well.

Throughout this unit, we will be working through various activities that integrate elements of research and design in order to plan the ultimate camping trip. The students started by brainstorming everything they know about camping and then used online dictionaries to define a variety of vocabulary words. Using the Travel Alberta website, the students then choose four places they would like to camp and provided reasons for their choices.
