Mental Health Capacity Building

Brain Smoothies

Mrs. Angela joined us again this week to create a new "Brain Smoothie" with the students. Each brain smoothie recipe is like a workout for the mind. This week the students created the "Pushing Paws" recipe. While listening to calming music, they were given 15 minutes to paint paw prints on their water canvasses. During this particular brain smoothie activity the students were asked to focus on repeating a simple image while making a pattern over time.

Language Arts

KidBlog

This week we completed:

Weekend Update, Talk About it Tuesday - Favourite Chocolate Bar, WeSearch Wednesday - Pink Shirt Day, Text Talk Thursday - Book Talk and Free Write Friday.

Please check out our class blog to see your child's writing.

Word Work

This week the students worked through various activities on the digraph "th". You can view your child's work on Google Classroom.

Buddy Bio Poems

This week the students wrote "Buddy Bio Poems" about another student in the class. This fun writing activity involved the students interviewing a classmate and writing a poem about their partner. Bio poems are easy to write because they follow a specific format but they don't have to rhyme. The students began by interviewing a partner to gather facts and information about his or her classmate. Then they composed a short bio poem using the information learned during the partner interview. Check out your child's Buddy Bio Poem in our Photo Gallery.

Math

XtraMath Daily Practice

XtraMath is our daily math fact practice. The students should be on the multiplication level at this point.

If your child is still on addition or subtraction, please have them practice these facts nightly.

Congratulations to our XtraMath SUPERSTARS that completed addition, subtraction, multiplication and division this week in 3 SECONDS!

Mathletics

Mathletics is a comprehensive online learning tool with lessons and activities specifically aligned to the Alberta math curriculum. Your child has been assigned activities that align to the lessons taught in class. Please have your child spend some time at home to complete these activities.

Blooket

Mr. Schnell introduced our class to a new interactive online review game. We tried out Blooket FRACTIONS, & FRACTION SHAPES and the students had a blast reviewing what they have been taught in class, in this game format. Ask your child to tell you more about Blooket and you can try it out here by signing up with a free account.

Have fun!

Social Studies

We wrapped up our study of Alberta: The Stories, Histories and People. The students were given the task of going through their notebooks and creating various Kahoot questions. Some were selected to be part of our grade 4 class review Kahoot ! The students enjoyed this Kahoot so much that we played it a couple times. We also completed our Show What You Know test, where the students demonstrated their knowledge of what was taught this unit.

We will be taking a break from Social Studies and beginning our new Science unit on Lights and Shadows next week!

P.E.

This week, our focus was on LUNGES. We played PacMan tag, lunging when we were "bubble tagged" and we played ZAP, which continues to be a class favourite! We also did Four Corner Lunges , Mike The Cosmic Space Monkey and Space Picnic. We have been perfecting our crunches, planks, burpees, and sit-ups by setting individual goals. When we could, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and headed outside to play Spy Tag.

Art

Creative Art

The grade 4 teachers decided to have some creative art time this week. The students were given scrapbook paper, origami paper & punches and could create what they wished with these items. They could also use their scissors, markers, rulers and glue. The creations were impressive! They made origami fox, cats, frogs, fish and even cute little boxes & containers. We also had some students creating cards and thoughtful messages to each other.
