Year 2

Following their study of Sandra Dieckmann's Leaf, Year 2 produced their own short narratives using the original story as their inspiration.

Arthur - Sadlers Wells

One sunny day, there was a funny gorilla swinging in the bright green trees when suddenly he fell in a dark, damp tunnel and then ended up in a gloomy forest. Trees swept around like dancing giants.

The owl was watching as the gorilla collected twigs. The owl said “What are you doing?” Gorilla said “I’m looking for bananas and twigs to make a banana boat to sail back home.” The problem was, he couldn’t find any bananas and just like that he disappeared into the mist.

The swift owl flew off to find gorilla. When the owl found him he was lying on a patch of leaves. Owl decided to talk to him. He said “I give up, there’s twigs but no bananas!” Owl said “I will fly to the jungle to get some bananas” and she flew.

When the owl got back, they started building before gorilla started to eat. When they finished it was a masterpiece. Then it was time for gorilla to sail back home. They waved goodbye and he sailed in the magical sunset. He was as excited as a kid on its birthday to get home.

The end.

Amanda - Vaudeville

It was a cloudy day in the forest and the trees were dancing. The foxes were hiding by the trees and the other wild animals were shocked and terrified to see a strange creature. Suddenly, there was a crash and something fell on top of a sunflower. It was a rabbit!

The rabbit tried to get up and the confused animals quickly run to check on the rabbit. They were extremely surprised to see a soft, small, fluffy rabbit. The animals thought, why wasn’t the rabbit using her helicopter wings?

A brave little bird flew down to the small rabbit. She tweeted “How did you get here?” The fluffy rabbit cried, “I want to go home!” The speechless animals felt sorry for the poor little rabbit.

The wise bird decided to have a meeting. They all wanted to help the poor rabbit, so they decided to build a floating cabin out of wood. The wise bird searched for wood as the other animals found something to stick them together to build the floating cabin. The grateful rabbit cried with joy as she got on the floating cabin to return to see her family.

Tara - Adelphi

Once upon a time, Tia the tiger was in the jungle when a hurricane rose from the sea and dragged her to a far away country. She realised she was in the Amazon rainforest and there were lots of snakes!

Then a lion came and so Tia ran and ran. At last, she reached a cave. She felt so exhausted in the morning that she woke up, went outside and saw the lion.

One day when Tia was prowling across the woods, she heard a noise. As she stopped, a white bunny popped out of nowhere. It said “I’ll show you the way home.”

Then they set off, but the bunny said we have to make a boat so they made one before setting off one day. The bunny said “We are here!”
