To ensure the health of our students and staff, if your child is sick or ill with any of the following symptoms (temperature greater than or equal to 100.4 degrees, feverish or has chills, feeling of tiredness, shortness of breath or trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea) or just does not seem their normal healthy selves, it is imperative that you KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL.
Your child should be assessed by a healthcare provider if these symptoms persist. Your building nurses are here to assist with questions and form a plan.
In order to address the frequently asked questions that our nurses receive regarding illness protocols, the following is a non-exhaustive overview of the guidelines created in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education and first shared in July 2022.
It is important that you keep your child(ren) home if they are sick. The following guidelines apply to all illnesses:
Upon return from an illness, students should be:
Fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication.
Not experiencing vomiting or diarrhea for at least 24 hours.
Symptom improvement (not excessively coughing, sneezing, etc.) and without the help of medication.
Any illness requiring an antibiotic is given a full 24 hours to start the treatment before returning.
In accordance with the school board decision made in early 2022:
Masks will remain optional in school and on buses.
There will be no contact tracing done by school personnel.
Covid-19 testing is not required to return to school.
Regarding quarantine, as long as they meet the requirements listed above for illnesses, students can return to school.
Members of the same household do not need to stay home from school unless they are also symptomatic.
A doctor’s note is required to return after 4 or more consecutive days absent.
