STUDENT SUPPORT AT BROCKLEHURST SECONDARY
LAC HUB at Brocklehurst Secondary School
We offer support services to students. These services are available to students needing extra time and assistance as well as students identified as having special needs.
BLENDED AT BROCK
Brock Secondary School offers an alternate education program for students who are struggling with regular academic programming. Our Blended Learning program supports students with individual academic programming with online course materials and smaller classroom environments. Students who are interested in Blended Learning need to connect with a school counsellor.
RISE/WORK READINESS PROGRAM
Brock Secondary offers a RISE program for students in grades 8 and 9 that works to provide students with academic Readiness, Individualized curricula, while providing Social/Emotional Learning and Evidence-Based programming. The RISE program supports students in their literacy and numeracy skills with a dedicated team of teaching professionals. The RISE program is designed to support our students’ academic and emotional growth to prepare students for graduation and their futures.
We also offer a Work Readiness Program for students in grades 10 - 12. This program continues to provide students with literacy and numeracy skills needed to prepare for graduation and their futures.
Both programs are limited in space, and students are placed in these programs based on individual student academic needs and teacher/administration/school counsellor recommendations in consultation with parents.
BRIDGES PROGRAM
Brock Secondary School is home to SD73's Bridges Program. The Bridges Program is an intervention program designed to assist students ages 12-14 who are having difficulties in the transition from elementary to the secondary system. The program focuses on the individual needs of the students while emphasizing core subjects (reading, writing and math), social responsibility skills and community interactions. The main goal is the successful reintegration into a local high school.
WELCOME ROOM
Brock students can connect with our Aboriginal Education Workers throughout the day in the Welcome Room. The Welcome Room is located just behind the front entrance to the school. Our AEW's support students and organize social groups where students can connect with different cultural events.
COUNSELLING SERVICES
This is a student-centred service. Students are encouraged to see a counsellor for help with:
1. Personal and interpersonal difficulties
2. Timetable and course plans
3. Future education and vocational planning
4. Liaison with Community Agencies
HOMEWORK REQUEST Homework requests for long-term illnesses should be made to the student’s teachers and counsellor.
COURSE CHANGES
We hope that you will choose your elective courses carefully. We expect that once students have made their choices, they need to be prepared to complete their courses. Every student is given as much opportunity as possible to select a suitable course program. Once the final selection is made, the student is committed and expected to complete the course. Only under special circumstances may a student be permitted to change a course. Your counsellor may consider a request for a course change if this is made early in the semester; however, these changes are dependent on available spaces in classes. Some classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrolment. A change may ONLY be arranged by the student’s counsellor and with the approval of the administration and parents/guardians
