Athletic Leadership 10/11/12 - YIPS-0A
Open to Grades 10-12
This will require time commitments at lunch and after-school throughout the year. Athletic Leadership is a combination of face-to-face learning within the classroom as well as project-based learning outside the classroom. Students will help with the coordination and running of athletic events and will be involved in sponsoring a Brock sports team through various management duties, as well as promoting team events in each athletic season. Students will also assist with intramural activities at lunchtime and prepare the Athletic Banquet at the end of the school year.
Creative Writing 12 |
This elective writing course focuses on reviewing and creating various forms of creative texts. Students will explore poetry, fiction, spoken word, and personal narrative topics. Students will develop their own unique writing styles through workshops, creative challenges, and collaborative feedback. students will focus on expressing their creativity and honing their storytelling skills, experimenting with language and writing voice, and developing different writing skills.
This is an elective writing course. This cannot be taken as a credit for English 12.
Fly Fishing 10, 11 & 12| YLRA-0B | YLRA-2C
During this course, you will learn to create a variety of flies, from “Ice OFF to Ice ON”, increase your knowledge and appreciation of the environment, and gain an understanding of lake topography and lake science. Fly-tying tools will be provided for use during the course. *If you have your own fly-tying tools, you may bring them to use*
Enhancement Fee: $50 to cover all hooks, beads, and tying materials.
Leadership 10/11/12 - YIPS-0A
Open to Grades 10-12
Through the Leadership course, students will learn what it means to be a leader and reflect upon their own leadership skills and styles to become more effective in their role within the school. Topics that will be covered include communication, organization, planning, conflict resolution, and public speaking.
Literacy Studies 12 |
This elective writing course focuses on diving into challenging texts where you would analyze and reflect on various topics and themes that could impact our lives. Students will review various texts that range from classical novels to more contemporary text and graphic novels/movies, as well as poetry and non-fiction works. Students will work on honing close reading skills, essay writing, and opinion sharing. The course is meant to help prepare students for potential post-secondary course work, as well as greater global citizenship connections.
This is an elective writing course. This cannot be taken as a credit for English 12.
Psychology 11 - Cognition and Social Psychology | YPSYC1A
Are you interested in how people learn or why they behave the way they do? This course emphasizes the cognitive and sociocultural levels of psychology. This course would be an introduction to the Theories of Psychology and include topics related to memory, learning, emotion, motivation, and development. Students will also be introduced to health psychology, which includes mental health, stress, mindfulness and meditation, and research related to the treatment of various ailments. Due to the nature of this discipline, students will be encouraged to evaluate research, pursue inquiries, and synthesize information in a meaningful and often personal way to develop skills in the Communication, Thinking and Personal and Social Core Competencies. Concepts in this course may overlap with those in Physical and Health Education and Career-Life Education in the BC Curriculum.

Psychology 12 | YPSYC2A
This course will provide an in-depth exploration of human behaviour and mental processes. Students will delve into key psychological concepts, theories, and research methodologies. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of Personality, Motivation and Emotion, Intelligence, and Development from infancy to end-of-life based on Piaget’s stages. The course will introduce students to Theories of Counselling and the Psychology of Social Media. It will build upon the foundations learned in Psychology 11. This course will also prepare students for post-secondary studies in psychology, sociology, neuroscience and related fields, as well as develop a deeper understanding of human behaviour and the complexities of the human mind.

Yearbook 10-12 | MMEDD10YB | MGRPR11 & MGRPR12
Yearbook is a semester-long class, that produces the school yearbook. Members of this class are expected to have a high level of maturity and the ability to work independently. Students will be responsible for the production, design, and publication of the school yearbook. Creating the yearbook is a fun process which includes choosing the theme and all related artwork as well as taking all the photos using digital cameras. This a project-based course with real-world experiences and results.

From the roots of blues, gospel, and country to the explosion of rock, punk, hip-hop, and pop, you'll uncover how music reflects the values, struggles, and experiences of the times.
Unlike performance-focused music courses, this class focuses on history, analysis, and cultural impact. You’ll investigate how innovations like radio, vinyl, MTV, digital production, and streaming transformed the way music was made, shared, and experienced—and how these changes shaped society.
The course is highly interactive: you will engage in lively class discussions, give oral presentations, collaborate on projects with students from other schools, and work in teams to explore the stories behind the music. Along the way, you’ll develop skills in research, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration—all while deepening your appreciation of the music that defined generations.
