This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of accounting. Students will learn fundamental accounting concepts, develop essential financial literacy skills, and gain insights into various asset classes such as the Stock Market, Commodities and the role of accounting in business and personal finance. This course will include the following units - Fundamentals of Accounting, Stock Market and Asset Classes, Investment Classes, Taxation in Canada, Personal Finances, and Introduction to Business Accounting.

This course focuses on 3 big ideas:

This course builds on Accounting 11. Students will learn about payroll, inventory systems, special journals and internal controls.
E-Commerce | MECOM12
This course focuses on internet digital marketing, e-commerce, revenue models and career possibilities in marketing including event planning, graphic design, community building, and content creation. Students will explore branding, influencers, and monetization possibilities while analyzing the ethics and implications of online advertising in the current digital space. This project-centric course is engaging, fun and applicable to the real-world fields of Marketing.

Tourism 11/12 | MTRM-11 | MTRM-12
Tourism 11 /12 represents a comprehensive introduction to a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and extremely diversified industry. Tourism 11/12 will focus on the global tourism industry, career-planning and employability skills. Different tourism sectors in Canada and neighbouring countries along with the services and activities within those will be studied. Students will have an opportunity to consider how their culture and the culture of those around them influence tourism and the economy. For a look into the future, students will explore current trends and identify areas of potential growth within the tourism sector. The inclusion of Tourism Essentials provides students with both transferable skills and employability skills and a foundation for workplace training in any of the five sectors of the tourism industry.
Home Economics and Culinary Arts - 11/12
Food Studies 11/12 | MFOOD11
This course is composed of both practical and experimental work. It includes basic principles of cookery in all areas of food preparation. Using the Canada Food Guide as a basis, partial meals are prepared throughout the course. This provides practice in menu planning, marketing, work organization, food preparation and service, plus table set-up and service. Other related topics such as nutrition, sanitation, and storage are studied.
Foods 12 - the purpose of this course is to provide the student with a continued progression into the area of foods and nutrition. International cookery will play a large part in this course.

Sewing and Fashion Design 11/12 | MTXT11
Recommendation: Textiles and Sewing 9/10
This course is designed for the creative sewer who has mastered basic sewing techniques. Students will learn alternation methods of commercial patterns to fit individual students. Fashion display, advertising and how to buy quality garments will be addressed. The history of fashion, trends, facts and design as well as fabric properties and construction techniques are included in this course.
Enhancement Fee: $35.00 to cover fabric, supplies, notions, thread and patterns
Information and Communication Technology - 11/12
Computer Programming and Coding 11/12 | MCMPR11 | MCMPR12
This senior secondary programming course builds upon foundational programming concepts learnt in previous grades, focusing on object-oriented programming principles and data structures. Students will delve deeper into algorithmic thinking, software development methodologies, and the application of programming in various domains. The course will focus on languages such as C++ and Java. Students will also be taken through Artificial Intelligence concepts such as Machine Learning, Neural Networks and Deep Learning. This will be a project-based course.
Game Maker and Animation 11 & 12 | MMEDD11CA | MMEDD12CA
This intermediate course delves deeper into the art and science of game animation, focusing on professional techniques and industry standards. Students will expand their animation skills, explore advanced game development concepts, and create sophisticated animations for 2D and potentially 3D games. Building upon the foundations learnt through the Godot Engine, students will work on the Unity Platform which is C# based to build multi-character games and animations. This will be a project-based course.
Technology Education - 11/12
Drafting and Design 11 | MTDRF11
Drafting 11 takes students further into the realm of creative problem-solving while building upon the technical illustration skills acquired in the previous course. Students will continue to develop and refine their technical skills, enabling them to express their design ideas through detailed technical drawing. The course also offers the hands-on experience of 3D solid modelling, giving students the chance to materialize their designs through 3D printing. Importantly, these skills are not limited to drafting: they are fundamental to success in various trade and technical careers, including Welding, Automotive, Metal Fabrication, Manufacturing, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, and Construction Trades.

In Electronics and Robotics 11 and 12, students advance their knowledge of electronics and robotics. Building upon the foundational concepts learned in the previous course, students explore advanced topics such as circuit design, sensor integration, and more complex robotic systems. They will delve deeper into the programming of microcontrollers and gain a broader understanding of automation and control. This course encourages students to tackle more complex projects, fostering problem-solving skills and creativity. Safety and responsible lab practices continue to be paramount.
In grade 12, students will have the freedom to design and execute complex, self-directed projects, enabling them to showcase their creativity and technical skills. This course is a stepping stone for those pursuing careers in technology, engineering, and related fields.

The senior Engineering program focuses on preparing students for advanced technological and engineering challenges. Students will design and prototype advanced systems, such as robotic mechanisms, smart devices with embedded electronics, or autonomous vehicles. Projects emphasize emerging technologies like IoT (Internet of Things) and renewable energy applications. The integration of sustainability, ethics, and practical problem-solving is central to the course. Using industry-standard tools, students will refine their skills and prepare for post-secondary studies and careers in engineering and related fields.

Metal 11/12 is a practical, project-orientated course designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in working with various metals. The course emphasizes both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience, allowing students to develop proficiency in metal fabrication. Safety and competency will be emphasized using welders, plasma cutters, metal lathes, milling machines, and a number of metal hand tools.

Woodwork 11/12 |MWWK11 | MWWK12
This largely creative course is designed to familiarize students with basic woodworking concepts and techniques. Students will learn how to design and construct furniture and other small projects. Safety will be emphasized in the operation of stationary and portable power tools and a variety of other hand tools. For the most part student projects will be self-initiated. The job skills taught in this course will help students develop good work habits. As well as practical skills, creativity and problem-solving are strongly encouraged. This course is an asset to those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in wood technology, but is equally intended for those students interested in learning a creative and pleasurable activity.

Open to Grades 10-12
This will require time commitments at lunch and after-school throughout the year. Athletic Leadership is a combination of face-to-face learning within the classroom as well as project-based learning outside the classroom. Students will help with the coordination and running of athletic events and will be involved in sponsoring a Brock sports team through various management duties, as well as promoting team events in each athletic season. Students will also assist with intramural activities at lunchtime and prepare the Athletic Banquet at the end of the school year.
Leadership 11/12 |YIPS-1A | YIPS-2A
Through the Leadership course, students will learn what it means to be a leader and reflect upon their own leadership skills and styles to become more effective in their role within the school. Topics that will be covered include communication, organization, planning, conflict resolution, and public speaking.
Psychology 11 | YPSYC1A
Are you interested in how people learn or why they behave the way they do? This course emphasizes the cognitive and sociocultural levels of psychology. This course would be an introduction to the Theories of Psychology and include topics related to memory, learning, emotion, motivation, and development. Students will also be introduced to health psychology, which includes mental health, stress, mindfulness and meditation, and research related to the treatment of various ailments. Due to the nature of this discipline, students will be encouraged to evaluate research, pursue inquiries, and synthesize information in a meaningful and often personal way to develop skills in the Communication, Thinking and Personal and Social Core Competencies. Concepts in this course may overlap in concepts with those in Physical and Health Education and Career-Life Education in the BC Curriculum.

Psychology 12 | YPSYC12
This course will provide an in-depth exploration of human behaviour and mental processes. Students will delve into key psychological concepts, theories, and research methodologies. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of Personality, Motivation and Emotion, Intelligence, and Development from infancy to end-of-life based on Piaget’s stages. The course will introduce students to Theories of Counselling and the Psychology of Social Media. It will build upon the foundations learned in Psychology 11. This course will also prepare students for post-secondary studies in psychology, sociology, neuroscience and related fields as well as develop a deeper understanding of human behaviour and the complexities of the human mind.

Yearbook 11 & 12 | MGRPR11 and MGRPR12
Yearbook is a semester-long class, that produces the school yearbook. Members of this class are expected to have a high level of maturity and the ability to work independently. Students will be responsible for the production, design, and publication of the school yearbook. Creating the yearbook is a fun process which includes choosing the theme and all related artwork as well as taking all the photos using digital cameras. This a project-based course with real-world experiences and results.
