English 8 | MEN--08
All aspects of the provincial curriculum will be taught in the grade 8 course. Students will use oral, written, visual and digital texts in order to individually and collaboratively:
comprehend and connect to different aspects of literature (novels, short stories, poetry etc.)
create and communicate through written and oral structures and conventions for diverse audiences.
Through an exploration of a variety of texts, including Aboriginal texts, students will explore forms, features and literary elements that contribute to meaning in story. Students will also think critically, creatively, and reflectively to explore ideas within texts and to make connections to their own lives. In addition, students will continue to develop communication skills by focusing on and thinking about the writing process, conventions of grammar, and spelling in order to create informational and creative texts.
This is a mandatory course as outlined by BC's Curriculum.
For students in grades K-9, the Provincial Proficiency Scale and descriptive feedback will now be used to explain where a child is at in their learning and how they can improve. This approach focuses on students' strengths and views learning as ongoing.
