This is an introductory course in which students study how an economy operates. Students will learn about key events in the history of money, banking, budgeting, supply and demand, investment comparison, taxation, and currency value. In addition, students will learn how to effectively manage their own finances. Topics covered will include stocks, credit cards, basic accounting and financial planning skills. This is an excellent course designed for students preparing for work in the world of business or for those just wanting to learn how to manage their own finances and become informed consumers.
Home Economics and Culinary Arts - 10
Food Studies 10 | MFOOD10
This course is designed to further students knowledge and skills in preparing and serving food. Safety and sanitation, nutritional requirements linked to the individual's well-being, meal planning and the impact of global food systems are all areas of study. Students will work with flour mixtures, yeast breads, protein foods, vegetables and fruits, grains and dairy.

Through a variety of sewing projects, students will learn the following content:
Natural and manufactured fibres, including their origins, characteristics, uses and care.
Strategies for using and modifying simple patterns.
Elements of design used in the design of a textile item and expanding on fashion drawing and the croquis.
Social factors that influence textile choices and the impact of those choices on local communities, and the importance of upcycling and recycling.
The role textiles play from a cultural perspective.

Computer Programming and Coding 10 | MCSTU10
Technology exists in every aspect of our daily lives today. Choosing computer science/ programming as your area of study is a choice that will change your life and open a world of opportunities in the job sector. This introductory computer programming course will equip students with the fundamental concepts and skills necessary to understand and create basic computer programs. Students will learn to think computationally, develop problem-solving and algorithmic thinking, and translate real-world problems into executable code. Students will learn beginner-friendly programming languages (e.g., Python, Block-based coding, HTML) through basic programming constructs like variables, data types, operators, control ow (if/else, loops), and functions. Students will also be introduced to artificial intelligence and their growing impact on our everyday lives. This will be a project-based course.
Game Making and Animation 10 | MCSTU10DGD
The video game, animation and graphic design industry is a growing industry. This exciting course will introduce students to the world of game development, focusing on the creation of engaging animations for 2D games. Students will learn fundamental animation principles, explore various animation techniques, and develop their creativity through hands-on projects. Students will be working on user-friendly game-making platforms such as the Godot Engine to understand and apply core animation principles. This will be a project-based course.

In Drafting & Design 10, students embark on an imaginative journey with a primary focus on the art of technical illustration. Throughout this course, students will acquire a fundamental set of technical skills that are the cornerstone for designers to proficiently communicate heir innovative ideas and craft solution through meticulous technical drawings. But it doesn't stop there - this course is full of thrilling opportunities. As a part of their journey, students will enthusiastically delve into the captivating world of 3D solid modeling, discovering the power to breathe life into their designs and ideas. Hands-on experiences are key, and students will witness their creations take shape through the exciting process of 3D printing. Drafting and Design 10 paves the way for students to unravel more advanced design concepts and engage in hands-on projects in subsequent courses.

In Electronics and Robotics 10, students continue exploring the world of electronic theory and practice, building on the foundations laid in Electronics and Robotics 9. Metal 10 is an inquiry-based course that introduces students to the fundamentals of working with metal. Power Technology 10 | MTPOW10
This is an introduction course for those students interested in taking Automotive 11/12. This course examines different sources of power including wind, solar, electric, and internal and external combustion engines. The disassembly, inspection, and successful reassembly of small 2-stroke engines will help introduce the maintenance and basic operational theory of cars and the sources that power them. This is an ideal course for those students intending to pursue a career in mechanics, engineering, or automotive-related fields. Both theory and hands-on participation will count towards your final mark in this course and students are encouraged to ring in small motors from home to work on.

Engineering 10 expands students' understanding of technology and design through intermediate-level projects. Woodwork 10 | MWWK10
This course is intended for students who enjoyed woodwork in grade eight and would like to further explore the creative and technical aspects of woodwork with greater freedom of choices. Students will be allowed to choose to work on projects independently or in small groups. Safety, creativity and the development of self-confidence will be emphasized through project construction using mainly power tools. This course is an asset to those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in wood technology, but is equally intended for those students interested in learning a creative and pleasurable activity or hobby.

Athletic Leadership 10/11/12 - YIPS-0A
Open to Grades 10-12
This will require time commitments at lunch and after-school throughout the year. Athletic Leadership is a combination of face-to-face learning within the classroom as well as project-based learning outside the classroom. Students will help with the coordination and running of athletic events and will be involved in sponsoring a Brock sports team through various management duties, as well as promoting team events in each athletic season. Students will also assist with intramural activities at lunchtime and prepare the Athletic Banquet at the end of the school year.
Leadership 10 - YIPS-0A
Through the Leadership course, students will learn what it means to be a leader and reflect upon their own leadership skills and styles to become more effective in their role within the school. Topics that will be covered include communication, organization, planning, conflict resolution, and public speaking.
Yearbook 10 | MMEDD10YB
Yearbook is a semester-long class, that produces the school yearbook. Members of this class are expected to have a high level of maturity and the ability to work independently. Students will be responsible for the production, design, and publication of the school yearbook. Creating the yearbook is a fun process which includes choosing the theme and all related artwork as well as taking all the photos using digital cameras. This a project-based course with real-world experiences and results.
