Filmmakers Intentions - Writer
As the writer of the film, I wanted to make sure that the audience experienced feelings of suspense and anxiety, similar to the feelings of the main character Lucy. In order to do this I wanted to be sure to include a couple of key things. For example, having something to provide ‘the fear of the unknown’, in this case the ‘unknown’ were the voices Lucy was hearing. I also wanted to experiment with foreshadowing and motifs, therefore I incorporated significant recurring numbers (4 and 12) to not only have a role in the plot but also to remind the audience that something may occur - have them feel like something may happen but they just can’t identify what. Overall, I wanted to allow the audience to experience the fear of the unknown themselves and to understand the tones of suspense and anxiety throughout the film.
