Filmmakers Intentions Director
When first approaching the idea of "Missing", I was looking to make a classic horror mystery in a more modern context. That touches on themes of the insanity and the ineffable elements of the human mind. The two protagonists: Derek and Ahmed. Are written to seem similar at first glance, but as the story continues the differences between the two start to unravel. Derek is shown as a warm and iniviting host and good freind to Ahmed, this is to make the audience more comfortable with the characters. Ahmed for the most part is a calm and collected character. As the story progresses I wanted to make it as unsettling as possible as Derek starts to act more and more unhindged. At one point his facade falls and he is openly trying to murder his freind Ahmed. Revealing that for whatever reason, he has gone mad. We used comfortable angles and had the characters parallel to each other in most shots in the beginning in order to make it seem casual. Later we used suspensfull music and choppy cuts and shakey camera movements to indicate the film's climax. Overall im grateful for the great crew I got to work with, and im quite proud of being able to write and direct: "Missing"
