Engaging Students By Making Learning FUN!

Jessica Gazzano, art teacher and member of the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year team, and Cooper Allison, 6th grade ELA teacher and 2023 Kansas Horizon Award recipient, share about how they use enthusiasm and fun to engage students. Both are middle school-level teachers who want to inspire fellow educators to bring fun into the classroom.

About Jessica & Cooper

Jessica Gazzano is the art teacher for grades 6 through 8 at Woodland Spring Middle School, in Olathe, Kansas. She has 16 years of teaching experience with 11 of those years in the Spring Hill school district. While working with elementary students, Mrs. Gazzano built the elementary art program from scratch and elevated the importance of art in the Spring Hill district.

Mrs. Gazzano is active on the strategic plan and building leadership teams is team leader for the parent and community involvement committee, and is part of the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year team. Mrs. Gazzano is the cheerleading coach and also sponsors the school’s publications club.

Cooper Allison is the 6th grade ELA teacher and broadcast journalism teacher for grades 6 through 8 at Woodland Spring Middle School, in Olathe, Kansas. She is in her 3rd year of teaching. Miss Allison graduated from K-State with a degree in journalism and worked for a year at an advertising agency. However, she decided to go back to school to earn her master's in teaching so she could follow in her parents' footsteps and become a teacher. 

Miss Allison is active on the building leadership team, is a teacher representative on the SITE council, and was a 2023 Kansas Horizon Award recipient. Miss Allison served as a cheer coach last year and is currently piloting the new broadcast journalism elective at her building.
