POSTECHへようこそ。

POSTECHが設立された1986年当時、韓国の大学の主な役割は、国家建設を担う人材を育成・輩出することでした。韓国初の研究中心大学として設立されたPOSTECHは、驚くべき先見の明を持ったリーダーたち、ポスコ（POSCO）およびその関連会社からの強力な支援、そして本学構成員の並外れた情熱により、驚くほど短期間で世界水準の大学へと成長しました。世界銀行がPOSTECHの急速な成長に関する特別報告書を発行したほどです。

ノーベル賞が称えようとする価値は、単なる学術的な成功ではなく、むしろ誰も足を踏み入れたことのない場所へ向かう冒険心です。私たちが必要としているのは、他の誰かによって立派に舗装された道を走るレーサーではなく、鬱蒼としたジャングルの中に道を切り拓く開拓者です。これこそがPOSTECHの精神です。

創立40周年を目前に控え、POSTECHは、韓国の開拓者精神の中心地である浦項（ポハン）から、世界の舞台への第二の飛躍を目指す航海に乗り出します。

POSTECH was founded in 1986 at a time when the primary role of Korean universities was to educate and supply human resources to build the nation. Established as Korea’s first research university in Korea, POSTECH has grown into a world-class institution in an impressively short period of time with outstanding leaders who had an incredible foresight, strong support from POSCO and its subsidiaries, and extraordinary passion from our members. The World Bank has even issued a special report on POSTECH’s rapid growth.

The value that the Nobel Prize seeks to honor is not merely academic success, but rather the adventurous spirit of going where no one has gone before. What we need is a trailblazer who cuts a trail in the dense jungle, rather than a racer who races on a road well paved by others. This is the POSTECH spirit.

As we look forward to our 40th anniversary, POSTECH will embark on our voyage for a second leap onto the world stage from Pohang, the center of the pioneering spirit of Korea.

POSTECHの学生は、バランスの取れた学生生活を送っており、週末や休日には学内外での活動を存分に楽しんでいます。

週末には、キャンパスでリラックスしたり、友人と近場へ旅行に出かけたりすることがよくあります。特に、緊密な国際コミュニティが育まれているDICE（国際文化交流寮）の仲間たちとの交流も盛んです。海に面した浦項の立地は、ビーチへのお出かけや海辺の散歩、地元の市場での新鮮なシーフードを楽しむのに最適です。

韓国の交通機関は便利で料金も手頃なため、ユネスコ世界遺産のある慶州（キョンジュ）をはじめ、大邱（テグ）、釜山（プサン）、さらにはソウルといった近隣都市への小旅行も人気です。また、長期休暇を利用して、韓国の美しい自然や文化に触れる旅も楽しまれています。例えば、フェリーで鬱陵島（ウルルンド）へ渡ったり、飛行機で済州島（チェジュド）を訪れて美しい景色の中でリフレッシュしたりします。

On weekends, students often relax on campus or go on local trips with friends, including those living in DICE (Dormitory of International Culture Exchange), which fosters a close international community. Pohang’s coastal setting makes it perfect for beach outings, seaside walks, and enjoying fresh seafood at local markets.

Short getaways to nearby cities like Gyeongju (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Daegu, Busan, or even Seoul are popular, thanks to Korea’s convenient and affordable transportation. Students also love exploring Korea’s natural beauty and culture during longer holidays—traveling by ferry to Ulleungdo, or flying to Jeju Island for a scenic retreat.

Whether it's hiking, café-hopping, joining school clubs, or attending local festivals, students at POSTECH find plenty of ways to experience Korea beyond the classroom.

Local Cuisine and Specialities

浦項（ポハン）には、活気があり学生にも優しい食文化があります。特に、新鮮で手頃な価格のシーフードで知られています。

沿岸都市である浦項は、ムルフェ（スパイシーな冷たい刺身スープ）、コドゥンオグイ（サバの塩焼き）、フェ（韓国風刺身）といった料理で有名で、これらはしばしば、わかめスープや地元のパンチャン（おかず）と一緒に出されます。学生に人気の場所が、伝統的な海産物市場である竹島（チュクト）市場です。ここでは、獲れたての新鮮な魚介類をその場で調理してもらい、気取らない雰囲気の食堂で味わうことができます。

Beyond seafood, there’s a wide range of Korean comfort foods like tteokbokki, samgyeopsal, and kimchi jjigae available at nearby restaurants and student-favorite spots around campus. Compared to major cities, food in Pohang is quite affordable, making it easy for students to dine out regularly without breaking the bank.
