I am going to research about the children who have bicultural ideas and environments. So I researched about the children who have the bicultural ideas because of their growing up environments with focusing on especially how international it is, such as their home town and their parents who got married with different nationalities. Then I have taken three articles for my research as the topics. One article was about arguing the issue of “Half”. In that article, the author discussed about how people should call the children who were grown up between the international marriage parents and what is their identity. This is the problem, especially in Japanese society, because that if people call them “Half”, it reminds that they are worse than others or have lack of something. It is because the word “half” means “not complete”, so people especially out of Japan tend to refuse that name. So to avoid this problem, there is other name instead of “Half” for these children. That is “Double”. But on the other hand, this is very uncomfortable word for Japanese and people do not like to use it in Japanese society. It is because Japanese people tend to explain themselves lower or do not like to be or say they are better or greater than others because of their “modesty” culture. I did not know this issue, but I could understand and agree with it. Then I thought that “Double” could be better than calling them “Half”, because there no evidence that they are greater than others but also there are no evidence that they are worse than others. So then, there are no reasons to harm them with calling such negative word. Second one was about the Japanese returnees. There are some issues around them such as the gap between their ideas or identity they have and their official nationalities. They were born in Japan and grew up in Japanese family, but stayed in other different countries for few years, then they confused with their personality. It happens because they grew up in non-Japanese society, so their custom are not Japanese, but their nationalities are Japan and have to go back to Japan after a while. It triggered their mental gap and this disharmony makes them difficult to spend a time in Japanese school after they came back to Japan. Also this disharmony sometimes triggers the bully in the school. For last, I found the article which was about that Japanese government eased the school system for foreign children to help their cultural gap in Japanese society with giving them the opportunities for entering in Japanese public school more easily to communicate with Japanese fellows. Then in the class, I noticed that I have to make my topic more specific and researched about more detailed and clear ideas that what I would like to research, it was because I was asked about the particular topic several times. So I realized that my disadvantage point of my research for this time. My topic what I would like to research such as the children who grown up in international environment and have bicultural ideas have not changed, but from next time, I would like to focus on comparing the difference between the children who are “Half” and who are Japanese returnees.
