This week, I researched about two things. First topic is about how Korean people were treated before the Pacific war and after the war. Second topic is what kind of measures did the Government introduce to make them go back to Korea.
According to the research by the Ritsumeikan University, the social position of the Korean people in Japan were considerably lower than that of Japanese workers. Moreover, jobs which Korean people were doing wasn't anything special and they couldn't even become a specialist in those domains. The wages for the Korean people were only 60% of the normal Japanese people.
According to the another research by the Ritsumeikan University, there was about 2.2 million Korean people in Japan just after the Pacific war. During 1945 and 1950, more than 1.5 million Korean people went back to their home country. However, due to the outbreak of the Korean War, more than 0.6 million Korean people were still left in Japan.
For the last research, I will focus on the policies by the Governments. I will research how did the policy change and the current law. My research question is “Is the measures by the Japanese government adequate?” In the presentation, I will talk about why did the Korean people come to Japan, their conditions before the war and the Japanese government’s measures for them. Last week, I tried to research using academic resources and books to be neutral about the effect of the policies set by the Japanese Government and I think I could become neutral about those policies. This week, I will use several sources again to analyze whether the policies by the government is adequate or not. I will not only use the government’s web-sites, but also sources that are critical to the government.
